Join us at Calthorpe Community Garden for a hands-on course in sustainable urban food-growing. Learn practical techniques to improve soil health, grow food year-round and reduce environmental impact - all while becoming part of a supportive community.
What you will learn
Eco-Friendly Practices: Discover rainwater harvesting, natural pest management (including a hands-on slug defence tutorial) and how to attract pollinators. Build healthy soil health without chemicals
A Year-Round Bounty: Plan your garden’s cycle for a continuous food supply. Learn about intercropping, winter crops, and companion planting.
Food Growing Techniques: Master seed sowing, transplanting and pruning, and other key skills like pricking out and potting up.
Course Timetable
This course runs April 2025 – February 2026, with 10 workshops held every 3-5 weeks (breaks in August and December). Each session lasts 2.5 hours, combining theory with hands-on practice.
Group 1 : Friday evening (5:30pm to 8:00pm)
4 April, 25 April, 30 May, 27 June, 18 July, 26 September, 24 October, 28 November, 30 January 2026, 27 February.
Group 2: Saturday mornings (10:00am-12:30pm)
5 April, 26 April, 31 May, 28 June, 19 July, 27 September, 25 October, 29 November, 31 January 2026, 28 February.
Course Fees
